Injured jockey released from hospital
April 15, 2011
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A well-known jockey has been released from the hospital, nearly two months after he was severely injured during a race. Horse-racing jockey Eibar Coa was discharged from Memorial Regional Hospital South in Hollywood Thursday after being treated for a spinal injury.
Doctors thought the jockey would never walk again. However, Coa proved them wrong. When Coa was released from the hospital, he was able to walk. "In all my years of neurosurgery, I've never seen anything quite like this, this miracle," said Dr. Scott Berta, a neurosurgeon at Memorial Regional. "His MRI indicated that it was severely traumatized and that he may never walk again."

Airport security scans: What would your doctor do?
March 31, 2011
How do scatter scanners at the airport affect you medically? Dr. Greg Zorman is one of several medical experts who CNN contacted to answer that question.
(CNN) -- I was in the security line at an airport a few months ago when I watched a fellow passenger do something I'd never seen done before: He dissed the scan. "I'd like to opt out," he said, as a security agent went scurrying for a male agent to give this man a full-body pat-down, the requirement for anyone who refuses to go through the full-body scanner.
Dr. Drew Pinsky, an internist and host of a new show on HLN that makes its debut on April 4, called the amount of radiation "inconsequential."
"I go through them," said Dr. Greg Zorman, chief of neurosurgery at Memorial Healthcare System in Florida. "The amount of radiation you get isn't worth worrying about."

Houston (CNN) - In the days and weeks to come, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' recovery from a gunshot wound to the head will be a marathon, not a sprint, doctors say. One immediate worry is an infection in her brain, according to Dr. Greg Zorman, chief of neurosurgery at Memorial Healthcare System in southern Florida.
"With gunshot wounds to the head, an infection can still happen, even this late," Zorman said.

"When she sat down to write a note, something was obviously very wrong. Her family called 911 and got her to the emergency room right away. She was having a stroke.
Dr. James Jaffe at Memorial Regional Hospital says it's critical to recognize the warning signs. "Change in their speech pattern, sometimes they'll have difficulty finding words or difficulty with their thoughts and those would all be signs of a mini-stroke."
